BRINGING HOPE TO THE MAMPRUSI PEOPLE

Evangelism, Education, and Community Transformation

By GlobeServe Ministries International

In the heart of northern Ghana, among the resilient and culturally rich Mamprusi people, a dedicated missionary, Benjamin Nakoja, is making a profound impact. His work in the Mamprugu area is not just about spreading the Gospel but also about uplifting the community through education and social transformation.

The Power of the Gospel in Sariba

Recently, Benjamin presented the Gospel to 102 people in the community of Sariba through a Jesus film screening. The message of Christ resonated deeply, and by the end of the presentation, 45 individuals gave their lives to Christ. This moment was not just an event but a significant step towards spiritual renewal and community transformation.

A Holistic Approach: Evangelism and Education

Beyond evangelism, Benjamin’s efforts extend to addressing practical needs within the community. Recognizing the power of education in breaking cycles of poverty and ignorance, he has established a school that currently enrolls 285 children. This initiative not only provides essential education but also builds trust and fosters goodwill among the Mamprusi people, including local chiefs and elders.

By intertwining faith with development, Benjamin is ensuring that his mission is not just about spiritual enlightenment but also about equipping the younger generation with the tools they need for a brighter future.

Understanding the Mamprusi People

The Mamprusi are an ethnic group predominantly found in the Upper East Region of Ghana, particularly in the Mamprugu kingdom. They belong to the larger Mole-Dagbani ethnic group and speak Mampruli, a Gur language. Their society is deeply rooted in traditional customs and is organized around a chieftaincy system, with the Nayiri (King) serving as the central figure.

Agriculture is the mainstay of the Mamprusi people, with many engaged in subsistence farming of millet, maize, and yams, alongside livestock farming. Religion plays a crucial role in their daily lives, with Islam being the predominant faith. However, traditional African religions and Christianity also have a presence among them.

The Lasting Impact

Benjamin’s approach exemplifies how faith-driven initiatives can holistically transform communities. His work in Sariba is a testament to the power of combining spiritual engagement with practical support. As the school grows and more people come to know Christ, the hope is that the Mamprusi community will continue to experience both spiritual revival and socioeconomic progress.
